Australia’s rooftop solar installations are amongst the highest in the world (on a per capita basis), with approximately 50 million (18.5GW) installed so far* and research suggesting that there will more than 1 million panels requiring replacement annually by 2031.
With no industry wide approach to managing the replacement and recycling of faulty, non-performing and end of life panels, the result has been panels either remaining on roofs or ending up in landfill due to being disposed through traditional methods. Not only has this become a fundamental problem for the industry but it is becoming an environmental problem for the country.
It is essential to have a strategy to recover, over time, these installed modules as they are decommissioned to avoid landfill and to support resource recovery and manufacturing. Importantly, PV recycling is an absolute necessity to ensure responsible end of life practices now and into the future.
Reclaim offers installers, real estate owners, developers and manufacturers a strategy to recover, over time, installed modules as they are decommissioned.
